Meet the dyer
Welcome to Rose Hip Island.
Rose Hip Island is a one woman show run from my home in Northern Tasmania. I am originally from Sweden and was happy to find the great Australian knitting community early on after moving here in the early 2000’s. I have found dear friends, learnt new skills and felt part of something truly amazing.
I was a knitter and also a spinner before I ventured into the world of dyeing. I love playing with colour and textures and that shows in all my fibre related adventures. I love experimenting in my dyeing but I also commonly think a step ahead about what the yarn will look like knitted up and what it will go well with. I do a lot of dream knitting and complete several jumpers, shawls and socks in my mind. I used to have favourite colours but since starting dyeing I have ended up loving all the colours. They all have a place and letting them play against each other is something I never tire of. The possibilities are endless. I enjoy yarns that will add extra texture and interest to a project and I am always on the lookout for new exciting yarn. I have my own small collection of special yarns that have unique blends or stories behind them.
I have a background in Environmental Sciences and having a low waste business causing minimal impact on the environment is key for me. I am always trying to improve every aspect of how I work.
On the Rose Hip Island video diary on YouTube, you can follow me and my knitting, dyeing and other fibre related adventures.
Happy making!
